Your support is what makes our exciting Markham Carnival experiences possible. As the city is opening up after the COVID-19 pandemic, programs and activities will be held in various physical locations. In order to protect every participant’s health, we observe the best advice and restrictions from the York Region Public Health and follow the legislation to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

We encourage everyone to wear masks when you participate in our activities and all our volunteers and staff will do the same.

We look forward to meeting you throughout August.

Until then, stay safe.

Our Covid Update Message
Your support is what makes our exciting Markham Carnival experiences possible. Last year, despite the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic that we were forced to close down all physical programs, we were able to move the Markham Carnival to the virtual space and raised over $100,000.

With the success of last year’s experience of holding online events, this year we are more confident to expand the event to a 2-day virtual programs with some face-to-face elements, pending on government restrictions on social distancing. All activities and programs will either be online or pre-recorded and livestreamed on August 28 and 29.

We observe the best advice and restrictions from the York Region Public Health and follow the legislation to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

We encourage everyone to sign up for our newsletter to receive the most up-to-date information regarding the activities and programs of Markham Carnival.

We look forward to meeting you through our virtual programs in August.

Until then, stay safe.

About Markham Carnival

Our History

Starting as a small-scale walkathon namely “Blessing Walk” in 2010, the event has evolved for over a decade to become the “Markham Carnival and Blessing Walk” in 2020 in celebration of the 10th anniversary of Blessing Walk. The organizers, the Markham Wesley Centre (MWC) and the Markham Peoples Community Church (MPCC), are proud to bring an annual joyous and ecstatic cross-cultural event to the residents of the Southern York Region in the midst of the summer season. Aiming to make the event a heritage of the City of Markham, we rebrand it as “Markham Carnival” to celebrate the summer and the city’s diversity and vitality.

Our Vision

To be recognized as a signature and a heritage event of promoting community and cultural harmony in Southern York Region.

Our Mission

To curate and produce activities and programs that bring out the best of the cultural elements of the diverse ethnic communities in the region, through collaboration, partnerships, and youth engagement.

Our Location

22 Esna Park Drive, Markham, ON L3R 1E1

Event Organizers

Markham Carnival is co-organized by the Markham Wesley Centre (MWC) and the Markham Peoples Community Church (MPCC)

Markham Wesley Centre

MWC is co-located with MPCC at 22 Esna Park Drive having a space of 15,000 sq. ft. It was established to serve the residents of the culturally diverse communities of Markham and Richmond Hill in the York Region. Its core mission is to promote cultural harmony and enhance the overall well-being of the surrounding communities and to assist new immigrants in adapting to new lives in Canada. We hope that by providing these communities with various social, recreational and physical activities, we will help promote the physical and mental health of each individual living within them.

Since its opening in December 2014, the MWC has grown to more than 2,000 registered members, with an average of 300 members participating in different activities at the Centre each day before the pandemic. These include ESL for new immigrants, volleyball, badminton, table tennis, pickle ball, basketball, etc. We also have our own community choir, cooking classes, photography, fitness, computer and various other activities for all ages.

YES Café

YES Café is located in the Markham Wesley Centre. YES stands for Young Entrepreneur Start-ups. Many SMEs (small and medium enterprises) suffered and closed during the pandemic shutdown. Our young generations need an innovative platform for experiential learning and to prepare themselves as a "micro” business entrepreneur with advanced food technologies for a disruptive dining experience.

YES Café aims to meet the young entrepreneurs’ needs through a strategic collaboration between MPCC and Business with Higher Purpose (BHP) where MPCC provides the physical environment, seating and parking facilities, modern café design, and the set up of a commercial kitchen. BHP provides the business model design, consultancy, operational management and specialized hardware & software solutions related to food technologies for young entrepreneurs, and connect them to the global ecosystem for sustainable growth. In 1 -2 years, the incubatees should be able to rollout their “micro” innovative food and beverages business in Greater Toronto Area and across Canada.
